Temporary Programme Manager Levant (m/f/d, 80-90%)

For a maternity cover, the Foundation is looking for a

Temporary Programme Manager Levant (m/f/d, 80-90%)

to support the Department Levant in managing a portfolio covering Jordan and Lebanon for a limited period of 7 months. Start date: 1 December 2024 or upon agreement.

Main duties

The Programme Manager Levant, based at the Foundation’s office in Zurich, will contribute to the management and development of the Foundation’s programmatic work in Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine, covering the themes of promoting creative and future skills, social and economic inclusion, and entrepreneurship and innovation. In close collaboration with the Head of Programmes Levant, the Programme Manager will be responsible for designing and (further) developing new and existing programmes and the projects therein, guiding the implementation of established projects and programmes, providing support to implementing partners, evaluating the impact of past engagements, and developing new initiatives and partnerships in line with DROSOS’s strategic priorities. The Programme Manager will also contribute to internal processes and developments of the Department Levant and the Foundation as a whole. The Programme Manager will work in a team of six, with four colleagues based in Switzerland and one in Palestine.

More specifically, the Programme Manager Levant will:

  • Oversee, monitor and evaluate the implementation of projects and advise partners where needed (on technical and financial matters), including ensuring proper and sound financial controlling of grants
  • Contribute to identifying new potential partnerships and developing new project ideas through desk research and/or field trips, as well as screening new project proposals in line with the Foundation’s programmatic approach
  • Implement tender processes to contract external consultants for evaluation, capacity development and research assignments, and monitor their mandates
  • Contribute to overseeing and monitoring programme implementation, incl. coordination, implementation and development of programme activities
  • Contribute to the implementation of the new strategy within the Levant department
  • Monitor socio-economic and political developments in the Levant region
  • Conduct trips to Jordan and/or Lebanon, when possible, to meet partners in the field
  • Prepare internal reports and background information as required
  • Execute administrative and organisational tasks related to organising field trips, contracting of external consultants, etc.
  • Contribute to overall communication and knowledge sharing of the Foundation
  • Directly report to the Head of Programmes Levant, based in Zurich

Requirements

  • Higher education in the field of social sciences or economics (international relations, international development cooperation, business administration, or related areas)
  • At least 5 years of relevant professional work experience in project development, programme management, monitoring and evaluation, preferably within non-profit or development sectors.
  • Knowledge of and work experience in the Arab region, in particular experience in collaborating with civil society organisations (previous experience in Jordan, Lebanon and/or Palestine is desirable)
  • Critical thinking and strategic planning skills
  • Business planning skills, including an ability to manage complex financial budgets and understanding of legal contractual relationships
  • Ability to simplify complex information into clear presentations to various key audiences
  • Strong affinity to the Foundation’s thematic priorities and values
  • Used to work independently with strong team spirit, self-motivation and sense of initiative, including building and maintaining effective relationships with remote team members and partners
  • Reliability and used to work meticulously; shows high commitment, professionalism and flexibility
  • Affinity to work in a multicultural environment and appreciation of diversity
  • Hands-on approach with a ‘can do’ attitude and proven ability to navigate uncertainty and changes
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain constructive relationships with partners while maintaining independence and securing compliance with the Foundation’s internal and external regulations
  • Very good communication and writing skills in English; Arabic and French are an advantage
  • Flexibility to travel as required
